It seems that one of the most frequent questions I receive from designers and audiovisual engineers is “How do I determine if the visual system I have designed will be bright enough?”  In order to answer that question, we must first evaluate what is really being asked.  Probably one of the biggest misconceptions in the industry is the fact that an image must have “brightness” in order to look good.  While that is partially true, the main attribute that affects our perception of whether or not an image is “bright” is actually the contrast of the image.  After all, when we look at contrast, we are looking not only at the “brightness” of the image but also the “blackness” of the image...
