Angles of Reflection is a series of articles written by Da-Lite which reviews the best practices for designing and specifying visual displays coupled with application basics for today's challenging system designs.

In July, Adam Teevan wrote an article that discusses the implications of the Holographic screen on digital signage. In this article, the following concepts are explained:

  • What the Holo Screen is and what it is not
  • Use of black in projection
  • Configuring the optimal projection offset
  • Calculating the throw distance
  • Factoring in Holo Screen gain
  • Accounting for the half angle of the Holo Screen

Here's a summary of this issue of Angles of Reflection:

The Holo Screen is a passive display device comprised of a special diffusion coating applied to an acrylic substrate.  This is the same basic definition as any of our other rigid rear projection screens and, indeed, they are comparable in most respects.  As with any rear projection screen, the diffusion coating is designed to transmit and scatter light from a projector in order to render a bright, visible image.  Likewise, the substrate’s primary function is to provide a rigid structure to support the diffuser. Read more!
